Birding Campbell River

There are many places throughout North America that are excellent spots for birding - but when it comes to seeing a large amount of species in one location, birding Campbell River is a good choice.

Birding Campbell River

Campbell River is located on Vancouver Island, in the province of British Columbia, Canada. Located on the west coast of North America, this island not only offers a great place to stay for a relaxing retreat, but also a perfect spot to see a number of different types of birds. There have been over 265 different species sighted here, with many of them seen right from Vancouver Island's most popular resort, Silky's Bed and Breakfast.

When birding Campbell River, you not only have the opportunity to see various different North American land birds, but also sea birds that are unique to the area. Depending on the season in which you visit, many of these birds can be seen up close and personal – with such varieties as large heron, peregrine falcons and more making their home here year round.

One of the more interesting birds that is found in the Campbell River area on Vancouver Island is the Stellar's Jay, which is the provincial bird of British Columbia. This isn't the only unusual bird in the area, though. There are many others that can be found on the island, such as bald eagles (the national bird of the United States), three separate types of hawk, and many other birds of prey. Smaller birds find their home here too, such as the many finches – like the Pine Siskin and Purple Finch – that make their home by the Campbell River.

There are also birding tours and wildlife tours that are led on Vancouver Island, with specific attention paid to birding Campbell River. These tours can be a good way to get your bearings about the area, and also a way to be able to identify the many different species you will be seeing. For a newer bird watcher, or one who hasn't been in the area before, these birding tours can be very beneficial. Also in the area are other activities, like white water rafting and salmon fishing.

Birding Campbell River is a great way to explore the beauty of the upper Northwest, and to enjoy the unique place that is Vancouver Island. Not too far from the US, this spot is a birder's paradise, and a fisherman's dream as well.
