Cape Town Hike Trail
Located on the southwestern side of the African continent, the port city of Cape Town is the capital of South Africa. It is the third most populous city in the nation, a place where nature and civilization coexist hand in hand. South Africa has the most varied concentration of hiking trails in the world, and many of them are just a few kilometers away from Cape Town.
A typical Cape Town hike trail may contain historical landmarks, rough cliffs, waterfalls, forests, caves, beaches, indigenous flora and wildlife, it is up to you to choose your destination and enjoy nature at the so-called Cape floral kingdom. Cape Town has two landmarks of particular interest for hiking, Table Mountain and the Grootkop Trail.

Hiking up to the Table Mountain National Park is an opportunity to discover the rare exotic vegetation of this place. Proclaimed a national park in 1998, Table Mountain is the crowning achievement of Mother Nature in the Table Mountain chain. There are over 550 walks of varying length and complexity. The Pipe Track is a nice 7 kilometer walk that gives you amazing views of the ocean and water inlets. The track was originally created so maintenance workers could access piping in the area. While the name isn’t particularly exciting, the views are outstanding.
The Grootkop Trail is a tremendously unique Cape Town hiking trail. It takes about 6 hours up roundtrip, and can be a bit tricky with some of the rock formations. The best thing about this trail is it is challenging, it is rarely used compared to others in the area and it has some of the most spectacular views you will find in the mountains surrounding Cape Town. The trail starts in Camps Bay and you just follow the markers on up. The mountain is known as Grootkop, so just keep heading up!
Cape Town is known from many things, all of them good. In a country lurching out of some hard times, Cape Town has always been an oasis of clam. Take in a Cape Town hike trail and you will gain an appreciation for Cape Town and South Africa in general.
