Maui Hiking Trails
When most people think of Hawaii, Maui is often the choice as the favorite island. Maui hiking trails offer a great way to explore Maui when you eventually grow tired of the beach.
Maui Hiking Trials
Hawaii is composed of a group of small islands from which Maui is the second largest. It is located in the south central area of chain of islands. This coffee-growing island is home to the Hoapili Trail and about 20 other Maui Hiking Trails with lush foliage and views of the coffee fields.
Hoapili Trail is a 5.5 miles path which is rugged and barren. The trail is a bit long, but not excessively challenging as rolling ascents and descents never venture over 200 feet in change. At 6 hours, it is vitally important to take along water and a power bar or two to keep your energy up. Keep in mind that humidity in Hawaii is an issue, but cool winds off the ocean often mitigate this problem. The beauty of this trail, on the other hand, is you can stop off and do some fishing in the streams and pools along the way.

Waihee Ridge Trail is another of the more popular Maui hiking trails. Coming in at a distance of 2.5 miles, you might think it is an easy trail at first blush. You would be wrong. While it isn’t a killer by any stretch of the imagination, the elevation change on the trail is over 1,500 feet. The trail meanders up the windward slope on the west side of the island beginning at roughly 1,000 feet above sea level. The trail head is a fairly barren, but you will soon be hoofing it through guava and wet scrub forest.
Other Maui hiking trails of note include the Waihou Spring Trail, Upper Waiakoa Trail, Waiakoa Loop Trail, Boundary Trail, Waiohuli Trail, Tie Trail, Plum Trail, Haleakala Ridge, Polipoli Trail, Redwood Trail, Mamane Trail, Skyline Trail, Waikamoi Ridge, Keanae Arboretum Walk, and Ke Ala Loa O Maui/Piilani Trail. If you have an interest in lava formations, the Ke Ala Loa O Maui trail is definitely worth a go as you will traverse older lave formations.
There are literally hundreds of Maui hiking trails you can explore on the island. All of them get a favorable rating because, after all, you are on Maui!
