In truth, Romania is a country struggling to recover from communist rule. The population of the country seems to be split unevenly into the totally poor or rich. Until the last five years, there was no middle class to speak of. As progress is made, however, the country is showing signs of breaking out.
Despite what you may have read in the Dracula books, Romania is a visually stunning country. Dominated by the Carpathian Mountains, the best way to see the country is to simply drive it. Stunning gorges and mountain peaks will leave you breathless, while you’ll find the forested areas of the country are largely unspoiled. As a result, you’ll see wolves, bears and other rare animal species in plentiful supply.
