When one thinks of summercamp, one tends to have images of canoeing, archery and ceramics. A child, of course, tends to think more about being away from his or her friends, computer, video games and so on. If you want to avoid the embarrassing task of wrestling your child on to the summercamp bus, choose one of the summercamp programs they will actually enjoy.
Children of all ages, particularly boys, love science fiction. As the box office revenues for Star Wars and the like attest, some of us older boys love it as well. If your child loves science fiction, let me introduce you space summercamp programs.
NASA offers a wide variety of space programs at its Huntsville, Alabama center. Programs range from three to eight day courses in space science, robotics and astronaut training. Minimum age is 9 years old unless parents attend as well. For that older child you married, there are also adult only programs for astronaut training and such. What makes the NASA program so memorable is it makes all of its high end simulation technology available to campers. Strap into a suit and suddenly you are on Mars. Your young one will be talking about it all winter.
The NASA summercamp programs can be a bit price, but the Virginia Space Flight Adventure Camp offers a great experience at a cheaper price. The camp activities are focused on astronaut training for a mission to mars. Campers undergo similar training to real astronauts, learn about space dynamics, build and fire model rockets and spend time in simulated space environments. The camp is located at the NASA Wallops Space Facility on the Virginia shoreline. The minimum age is 11 year old and camps run for a week. Prices start in the $600 range.
Making arts and crafts just doesn’t cut it with most children anymore. Space summercamp programs are something they will be interested in. You won’t even have to push them on the bus when it is time to go!
