Traditional Kids Summercamp

Start looking for a summercamp for your child and you will realize things have really changed. Don’t worry, finding a traditional kids summercamp is still possible.

Traditional Kids Summercamp

A traditional kids summercamp is something we should probably define first. To qualify, the camp should offer the basic things you and I experienced when we went to camp. This includes activities like arts and crafts, swimming, hiking, sports, canoeing and horse back riding if we were lucky! The camp should also last from one to four weeks and, obviously, be an overnight adventure. With this definition in mind, here are some traditional kids summercamps offered around the nation.

Cottontail Ranch Camp is located in Malibu Canyon, California. As a traditional summercamp, it offers everything you might expect. Activities range from hiking to arts and crafts, to horseback riding to archery to rock climbing to swimming and even surfing. Located on a 2,600 acre ranch, the camp offers stays from one to two weeks at reasonable rates. On an aside, Malibu Canyon is a beautiful area.

Located in Tampa Bay, Florida, Camp Frontier is a traditional kids summercamp with the added benefit of being close to the beach. Traditional camp activities offered include swimming, hiking, arts and crafts, horseback riding, sports and ceramics. With its unique location, kids can also try out sailing and take field trips to the beach and local theme parks. It just doesn’t get much better than that! The camp is coed. Visits can last from one to two weeks.

Windsor Mountain International Camp is located in Windsor, New Hampshire. As a traditional kids summercamp, it offers the usual activities including sports and arts. Located on 4,000 acres of lakeside wilderness preserve, the camp offers unique wilderness adventures where counselors and kids can take camping trips for a few days. The camp takes participants from both the U.S. and foreign countries, which provides children with a unique opportunity to interact with kids from all over the world.

Despite the trend to create camps for specific focuses, traditional kids summercamps are as popular as they ever where.
